43 goals highlight match week 2 in the Summer of Soccer
East Division
Saturday, May 20
Flower City Union 0 vs FC Buffalo 6
FC Buffalo entered this match with a chip on their shoulder for getting so close to a national championship last summer and looked to send a message to the entire UWS to ensure everyone understands they are ready to jump in 2023. Marcy Barberic secured a hat trick for the visitors who now prepare for a home opener coming up against Steel City FC.
Coppermine 3 vs Lancaster Inferno 1
In a matchup of two teams, who are looking at this season as an opportunity to go one step further, this game had it all. Coppermine ruined Inferno’s playoff hopes last year and didn’t make 2023 any easier as Coppermine put three in the back of the net with goals from Kale’a Perry, Hayley Moten, and Sonia Rada. Keep an eye out for the return match on June 10th though as Lancaster hosts Coppermine in a match that could swing the division.
Erie Commodores 2 vs Steel City FC 2
This was a very physical well-played match between two teams with similar aspirations. The match was tied at 1 heading into halftime and the second half was no different with both teams scoring a goal each to secure one point a piece to start their seasons. It will be interesting to see how these teams recover mentally and physically as they both are playing away this upcoming weekend with the East being a very competitive division.
CT Rush 0 vs Albany Rush 3
Albany Rush came ready for this matchup and put together a very solid performance, against a strong opponent, winning 3-0 on the road. Connecticut Rush has over a week to reflect and prepare for their next match which will take place at Sporting Connecticut on May 31.
Sunday, May 21
BC United 1 vs Keystone FC 1
Keystone FC and expansion team, BC United, ended their first game of the season with one point at Binghamton University on Sunday. BC United’s Sydney Coggins scored the first goal, and Keystone FC’s Ahsia Thomas helped ensure one point was left on the pitch in a draw.
Maine Footy 1 vs NE Mutiny 1
After scoring 7 goals in match week one, it was assumed that NE Mutiny would continue their scoring streak. UWS newcomers Maine Footy had a different plan and matched up well against the Mutiny, which resulted in a 1-1 draw. Maddie Michaud will remember her afternoon on the pitch as she will forever be the first goal scorer in Maine Footy history, and it won't be her last either for the club as they look to make waves in the East Division.
Great Lakes Division
Sunday, May 21
Futsal Factory 0 vs MI Jaguars 5
The Jaguars came into this matchup wanting to continue its positive run of form from 2022. After a season that saw them finish at the middle of the table, the visitors started the 2023 season on a high note with goals from Mary Grimes, Ella Janz, Emerson Sargeant, and a brace from Brooke Sleeva to make sure that the Jaguars start the season with 3 points while Futsal Factory looks to June 2 against Nationals SC to make a comeback.
Michigan Hawks 7 vs Livonia City 1
As was the case with previous years, the Michigan Hawks came out firing on frame with a message for the Great Lake Conference as they hosted a talented Livonia City side. In the end, the Hawks put up 7 and dominated the game.
Midwest Division
Saturday, May 20
Edgewater Castle 2 vs Cincinnati Sirens 2
Our previewed match on the Kickoff Show didn’t disappoint as this match was back and forth with both teams taking a point away. The Sirens got the match going in the 55th minute with Mackenzie Kent only to be leveled 6 minutes later as Jacelyn Islas got Edgewater on the board. No more than 5 minutes later, Cincinnati added their second goal behind Morgan White who put them ahead 2-1. In the 86th minute, Darian Lucas found the back of the net to ensure that Edgewater would see that they earned one point from the match.
West Division
Saturday, May 20
Reno Vikings 1 vs FC Arizona 4
FC Arizona traveled to Northern California with a side that was eager and determined to prove that they are a team to be feared in the West Division. Goal contributions from Neshma Rodriguez, and Katrina Wetherall, along with a brace from Rebekah Valdez ensured a successful trip home to Arizona with three points to start the 2023 summer of soccer.

Eighty-plus teams based in the United States and Canada comprise two distinct levels of competition: UWS and UWS League Two (UWS2).
With over 38 NWSL draftees & 100 professional contracts to its name, UWS provides high-level competition for college players, aspiring & former professionals, and international stars. The season runs from May until the end of July, culminating in a National Championship.
