Memorial Day Weekend features intriguing UWS slate
METUCHEN, NJ – United Women’s Soccer closes out the month of May with plenty of action, with the East, Central, Midwest and Southwest Conferences all scheduled to play.
East Conference
Saturday, May 29
Lancaster Inferno vs Brooklyn City F.C.
Start Time: 2:00 p.m. EDT
Venue: Millersville University Pucillo Field (Millersville, PA)
This intriguing matchup pits one of the East Conference’s established contenders in LANC Inferno against Brooklyn City, an expansion side off to an excellent start in UWS. Brooklyn City picked up four points from its first two games in UWS last weekend, including a 5-0 thumping of Worcester Smiles. The Inferno will be looking to secure three points at home and improve upon a season-opening draw against Long Island Rough Riders.
NJ Copa vs Worcester Smiles
Start Time: 2:00 p.m. EDT
Venue: St Joseph High School (Metuchen, NJ)
Both of these sides come into this match hoping to get their attacks in gear. Worcester Smiles have found the back of the net just once in two matches so far this season, while one goal was good enough for NJ Copa to claim a win last weekend against Rochester Lancers.
Albany Rush vs Rochester Lancers
Start Time: 7:00 p.m. EDT
Venue: Lansingburgh High School (Troy, NY)
Two clubs in need of a victory clash this weekend in Troy. Both Albany Rush and Rochester Lancers have suffered defeat in their first two matches of the season. Rochester has lost its first two games by just a single goal each, while Albany Rush has started 2021 with a -11 goal differential after two games. This is a valuable chance for both sides to pick up points.
Connecticut Fusion vs New England Mutiny
Start Time: 7:30 p.m. EDT
Venue: Farmington Sports Arena (Farmington, CT)
No team in UWS has scored more than Connecticut Fusion at this early stage of the season, with Fusion romping their way to two victories and 14 goals. New England Mutiny has been prolific too, tallying eight times in two games. Expect sparks as two clubs with plenty of firepower go head to head.
Sunday, May 30
Lancaster Inferno vs NJ Copa FC
Start Time: 2:00 p.m. EDT
Venue: Millersville University Pucillo Field (Millersville, PA)
LANC Inferno and NJ Copa are the only East Conference clubs on double duty this weekend. Two squads of high-level athletes will clash at Millersville University in a game that will surely leave a mark on the playoff picture in the East Conference later on.
Midwest Conference North
Friday, May 28
Lansing United vs Midwest United
Start Time: 7:00 p.m. EDT
Venue: East Lansing Soccer Complex (East Lansing, MI)
A rematch of a thrilling 4-2 game between these two clubs back on May 8 is set for this Friday, with both clubs trending in opposite directions. Midwest United is unbeaten for the season so far, while Lansing United has suffered defeat in all three of their matches so far this season. The hosts will look to change that this weekend and rejuvenate their campaign.
Saturday, May 29
Muskegon Risers vs Ladies Steel City FC
Start Time: 7:00 p.m. EDT
Venue: Muskegon Catholic Kehren Stadium (Muskegon, MI)
Midwest South meets Midwest North in this inter-division clash. Both clubs badly need a win in this game. Muskegon has lost all three of its matches in its debut UWS season to this point, while Ladies Steel City has fallen in their last two games since beginning the season with a victory over Chicago KICS.
Detroit City FC vs Chicago Mustangs
Start Time: 7:30 p.m. EDT
Venue: Keyworth Stadium (Hamtramck, MI)
Chicago Mustangs will begin their season away from home against one of the in-form sides in UWS this season. Detroit City FC has begun its campaign with three consecutive wins, scoring 11 goals while conceding just three. Chicago Mustangs will hope to disrupt that momentum and establish a good foundation for their own season.
Southwest Conference
Saturday, May 29
Williamson County FC vs CTX Hornets
Start Time: 5:00 p.m. CDT
Venue: Round Rock Multipurpose Complex (Round Rock, TX)
Two sides in search of their first result of the season clash in Round Rock this weekend to begin play in the Southwest Conference. WiCo FC has made a difficult start to the season, losing its first two games. Likewise, CTX Hornets fell 6-1 in their opening game of the season, and both sides will be out to end this poor run of form.
Side FC 92 vs Bat Country FC
Start Time: 6:00 p.m. CDT
Venue: Case Community Soccer Complex (Sand Springs, OK)
BatCo FC is one of two clubs in the Southwest Conference beginning their seasons this weekend, with a tall task ahead of it in the form of Side FC 92. Side FC 92 has made quick work of its two opponents so far this season, out-scoring them 12-0 in total.
FC Austin Elite vs Alacranes Fort Worth
Start Time: 7:30 p.m. CDT
Venue: Round Rock Multipurpose Complex (Round Rock, TX)
A tightly contested matchup could be in store between two clubs who drew 1-1 in their first meeting of the season last week. FC Austin Elite finds itself still searching for a first win of the season, while Alacranes will hope to continue climbing the table after taking four points from two matches last weekend.
Lone Star Republic vs SA Athenians
Start Time: 8:00 p.m. CDT
Venue: Greenhill School (Addison, TX)
Lone Star Republic will be keen to defend home turf as it begins its season against SA Athenians. SA Athenians have impressed in their two games so far this year, claiming two wins and outsourcing their opponents 9-1.
