Metuchen, NJ – The Mid-Atlantic Conference stands as the largest conference in UWS2, featuring a total of nine teams. Newcomers, Back Mountain Torrent, had a remarkable inaugural season that saw them dominate the conference with an undefeated streak in all eight of their games, ultimately securing the title of Mid-Atlantic Conference Champions. As a result, Torrent secured three out of the four end-of-season awards.
Keystone FC goalkeeper, Bridget Kemerer, played in seven games amassing an incredible 40 saves, a feat that surpassed all other UWS2 goalkeepers. With just eight goals conceded, Kemerer also led the league in goals-against average. Beyond her impressive statistics, Kemerer consistently came through with last-ditch saves, contributing significantly to her team's second-place finish in a highly competitive conference. As a result, Briget Kemerer is the 2023 Mid-Atlantic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year.
Brynn Hess, the captain of the Mid-Atlantic Conference Champions, played a pivotal role in solidifying Back Mountain Torrent's backline. Her relentless work ethic and exceptional defensive record in 1-v-1 situations earned her a reputation as one of the best defenders in the conference. In addition to her defensive prowess, Hess actively contributed to her team's offensive efforts, often initiating their attacks and even tallying a goal herself. As a result, Brynn Hess is the 2023 Mid-Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
Emma Sweitzer emerged as the top goal-scorer for the Mid-Atlantic Conference Champions, Back Mountain Torrent, by netting an impressive 10 goals. Additionally, Sweitzer tallied three assists meaning she contributed to more than 50% of her team’s goals during the season. Her tenacity, versatility, and speed posed a constant challenge for opposing teams. As a result, Emma Sweitzer is the 2023 Mid-Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
Tayler Jamison, the Head Coach of Back Mountain Torrent, led her team to a conference title in their inaugural UWS2 season. Jamison meticulously built a roster filled with local collegiate standouts and high school graduates committed to playing soccer at the college level. She fostered a positive developmental environment that allowed her players to thrive in the competitive Mid-Atlantic Conference. Jamison’s experience of playing soccer as well as coaching at the NCAA Division III level meant she was well-equipped to lead the Torrent and successfully guided her side to an unbeaten record. As a result, Tayler Jamison is the 2023 Mid-Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year.
