The Lancaster Inferno (3-4) welcomed the New York Magic (0-4-1) to the pitch at Pucillo Field on Saturday. It was a beautiful day for soccer and the Inferno’s players were in a groove as soon as they set foot on the field. (#25) Teresa Rynier, (#3) Amy Rieker, and (#20) Katie Hackos began to gel early on in the match on the offensive side. The midfielders and defenders asserted themselves early as they were running down open field balls and pushing the ball quickly to offensive.
Rynier assisted Hackos in the first goal and not much later, Rynier assisted Amy Rieker as she drilled the ball into the back of the net in the 17th minute. Rynier was still not done for the day as she netted another goal in the 38th minute assisted by Hackos.
The Inferno had a slight hiccup defensively as (#11) Shani Abrahams, of the Magic, busted between two Inferno defenders on a well-placed through ball. Abrahams finished the play beating (#18) Emily Dolan on a finessed ball. This put the Inferno up 3-1 at half time against the New York Magic.
As the second half started there neither side saw a lot of shooting, but nothing went in until near the end of the match. (#19) Bailey Corbin put the dagger into the New York Magic scoring the Inferno’s 4th goal with less than 5 minutes remaining on a great cross from (#11) Sydney Blomquist.
The Lancaster Inferno looked strong and dominated in a well deserved win, defeating the Magic 4-1. Lancaster Newspaper also did a great write-up of the game at lancasteronline.com.
