MATCHDAY PREVIEW: Lancaster Inferno at Eagle FC

Matchup 

Lancaster Inferno faced Eagle FC in a hard fought battle Wednesday, June 18th, 2025, and fell 2-1 in the last minutes of the match with Justyce Hollenbach and Gabrielle Eckroth scoring with Eagle FC, and defender Ryelle Shuey putting Inferno on the scoreboard. 

Despite Inferno out shooting Eagle FC in the first half, and maintaining 53% possession, the half remained scoreless. In the 56th minute, Eagle FC was awarded a penalty kick that forward Justyce Hollenbach finished—putting Eagle FC up 1-0. 

Not long after, Inferno responded off a free kick taken by Rachel Eberly. Eberly found Ryelle Shuey attacking the back post—heading it past goalkeeper Malene Nielsen to tie the game 1-1. 

Inferno fought through many setbacks late in the second half, and unfortunately fell to an 89th minute goal by Gabrielle Eckroth. 

Interview: Head Coach 

Stephanie Cleaves is approaching the mid-way point of her third season as head coach of the Lancaster Inferno USL W League team. As a former player, and assistant coach, Coach Cleaves has helped Inferno become a high-class team within the Mid-Atlantic Division. 

Prior to the USL W League splitting the Eastern Conference into four divisions, Coach Cleaves helped Inferno during their inaugural USL W League season go to playoffs with a 10-2-1 (W-L-T) record. She was nationally recognized for the team’s accomplishment and named the 2024 USL W League Coach of the Year. 

Coach Cleaves is confident in the Inferno squad heading to Saturday’s match against Eagle FC stating, “Every game against Eagle has been a 1 goal game. I don’t expect this to be any different, and if we play as well as we did on Wednesday, I’m confident we will be on the winning side.” 

She goes on to discuss defender Delaney Bittner being “lights out all season,” and having a significant impact in the back line.
