Several key matchups highlight third week of UWS action
METUCHEN, NJ – United Women’s Soccer begins the third week of play on Friday, with matches scheduled throughout the weekend. The Central and West Conferences are slated to begin play, alongside the East, Southwest and Midwest Conferences, which have already begun their seasons.
Central Conference
Saturday, May 22
KC Courage vs FC Wichita
Start Time: 4:00 p.m. CDT
Venue: Avila University (Kansas City, MO)
The UWS Central Conference gets underway this weekend with a clash between two clubs playing their first UWS season. KC Courage and FC Wichita will each view their league debuts as a valuable opportunity to earn points.
East Conference
Friday, May 21
Scorpions SC vs Connecticut Fusion
Start Time: 7:30 p.m. EDT
Venue: Medway HS (Medway, MA)
The weekend of action in the East Conference begins at Medway High School, where Scorpions SC will host Connecticut Fusion. Scorpions SC got going last week with a 2-2 draw against New England Mutiny, surrendering a late two-goal lead. Connecticut Fusion got off to an emphatic start with a 10-0 win over Albany Rush and will look to keep the momentum rolling here.

Long Island Rough Riders vs Brooklyn City
Start Time: 5:00 p.m. EDT
Venue: Mitchell Athletic Complex (Garden City, NY)
Brooklyn City will make its long awaited UWS debut on the road against Long Island Rough Riders. The hosts have already begun their season, but are still waiting to crack into the goals column after falling 1-0 to Worcester Smiles in their opener last week.
Albany Rush vs FC Buffalo
Start Time: 7:00 p.m. EDT
Venue: Lansingburgh HS (Troy, NY)
Albany Rush will play their first UWS home game looking to bounce back from a tough defeat to Connecticut Fusion in their debut. FC Buffalo, meanwhile, will hope to stay perfect on the season after grinding out a 2-1 win against Rochester Lancers in their opener.
New England Mutiny vs Connecticut Rush
Start Time: 7:00 p.m. EDT
Venue: Lusitano Stadium (Ludlow, MA)
This enticing matchup features another UWS debutant, as Connecticut Rush prepare to play their inaugural game in the East Conference. New England Mutiny began the season by rescuing a 2-2 draw against Scorpions SC with a late scoring outburst, and will hope to use the positive momentum from that rally to fuel a win here.

Lancaster Inferno vs Long Island Rough Riders
Start Time: 2:00 p.m. EDT
Venue: Millersville University Pucillo Field (Millersville, PA)
Long Island’s second tilt of the weekend sees the Rough Riders travel to Millersville to take on defending East Conference playoff champions Lancaster Inferno, who will be set to make their 2021 season debut.
Rochester Lancers vs NJ Copa FC
Start Time: 2:00 p.m. EDT
Venue: Aquinas Institute (Rochester, NY)
NJ Copa joins Lancaster Inferno as one of two clubs in the East Conference getting their season underway this weekend. They’ll hope to start well against Rochester Lancers, who will have redemption on their minds following last weekend’s season opening defeat to FC Buffalo.
Brooklyn City vs Worcester Smiles
Start Time: 5:30 p.m.
Venue: Aviator Sports Complex (Brooklyn, NY)
Brooklyn City’s busy opening weekend in UWS concludes with its home debut against Worcester Smiles. Worcester will hope to carry its tight defense into the new gameweek, after keeping a clean sheet against Long Island Rough Riders to secure a season opening win.
Midwest Conference North Division
Saturday, May 22
Muskegon Risers vs Midwest United
Start Time: 7:00 p.m. EDT
Venue: Muskegon Catholic Kehren Stadium (Muskegon, MI)
Muskegon Risers will play their first home game as UWS members, hoping the familiar confines of Kehren Stadium bring about a change of fortune after starting the season with two defeats. Midwest United, meanwhile, have a chance to build on a 4-2 win over Lansing United on the season’s opening weekend.
Sunday, May 23
Lansing United vs Detroit City FC
Start Time: 2:00 p.m. EDT
Venue: East Lansing Soccer Complex (East Lansing, MI)
Lansing United is another side in need of a win following two consecutive defeats to begin the season. Detroit City FC will look to keep its positive start to the season going after earning a 2-1 victory over Muskegon last weekend.
Corktown AFC vs MSC Peoria
Game will be rescheduled.
Midwest Conference South Division
Sunday, May 23
Chicago KICS vs Ladies Steel City FC
Start Time: 7:00 p.m. CDT
Venue: De La Salle Institute (Chicago, IL)
This is already the second meeting between these two sides this year, after Ladies Steel City FC bested Chicago KICS 2-1 two weeks ago to get the season underway. The Kicks haven’t played since, and will be looking for revenge on their home pitch, while Steel City will hope to rebound from a 2-1 defeat to MSC Peoria last week.
Southwest Conference
Friday, May 21
Alacranes Fort Worth vs WilCo FC
Start Time: 7:30 p.m. CDT
Venue: Diamond Hill High School (Fort Worth, TX)
The weekend of Southwest Conference action begins with a tilt between two clubs in their first seasons in UWS. Alacranes has already made its debut, falling to Side FC last weekend. This will be the first runout for WilCo FC with valuable points at stake.
Saturday, May 22
Side FC 92 vs WilCo FC
Start Time: 7:00 p.m. CDT
Venue: Case Community Soccer Complex (Sand Springs, OK)
One day after its UWS debut, WilCo FC will turn right around and battle Side FC 92, making this an important two-day road trip for the newcomers. Side FC started well last week, besting Alacranes 8-0, and will hope to continue that dominance this week.
Alacranes Forth Worth vs FC Austin Elite
Start Time: 7:30 p.m. CDT
Venue: Diamond Hill High School (Fort Worth, TX)
Alacranes also has a quick turnaround this weekend, hosting FC Austin Elite on Saturday 24 hours after their Friday night game against WilCo FC. FC Austin suffered a tough beginning to its season last weekend, falling 3-0 on the road against SA Athenians, and will look to claim its first victory of the new campaign here.
SA Athenians vs CTX Hornets
Start Time: 7:30 p.m. CDT
Venue: Soccer Central (San Antonio, TX)
The final Southwest Conference match of the weekend features CTX Hornets, another league debutant, playing their first game in UWS away at SA Athenians. Athenians began their season well, with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over FC Austin, and will hope they can replicate that performance here.
West Conference
Friday, May 21
Internacional CA v Kongo SC
Start Time: 7:00 p.m. PDT
Venue: Centennial Regional Park (Santa Ana, CA)
Action in the West Conference gets underway this week, with Internacional CA and Kongo SC kicking things off. This is the first UWS game for both sides, who will each be looking to pick up important points and build a platform toward a competitive first campaign.

SC Blue Heat vs Kongo SC
Start Time: 6:00 p.m. PDT
Venue: Masters University (Santa Clarita, CA)
Kongo SC will turn right around and play SC Blue Heat on Saturday, concluding an important weekend on the road. Regular UWS West contenders SC Blue Heat will need to begin their season strong at home as they get their campaign underway.
