New Year – New League – New Logo

2016 begins a new season for Lancaster Inferno in more ways than one. Late last year we were invited to become one of the founding teams in a new national women’s league, United Women’s Soccer (UWS). “I believe that all the hard work we’ve put into the team the last two years and the high quality of players made us a great candidate. In addition, this league more closely aligns with our goal to offer the best amateur soccer in our area,” says Inferno President, Francisco Cleaves.

United Women’s Soccer (UWS) is a Pro-Am League which was formed in late 2015 by a number of soccer officials led by New England Mutiny (formerly with the WPSL) owner, Joe Ferrara. “It was pretty much born from the idea of a group of like-minded organizations across the country,” Ferrara said. “But particularly here in the Northeast, of having a league where the standards are high … to fall in line with being a second division team tier under the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). There needs to be a professional environment. That’s what we expect from others from the league.”

UWS will have at least six teams on the Northeast Coast that were formerly with the WPSL or W-League (the W-League folded in November, 2015), and are currently in talks with teams in other regions of the US.

Additionally, Lancaster Inferno decided to update the team’s logo to a more modern, professional design to reflect the change in the league we are playing in. Our new logo was designed by Stephanie Cleaves of dynamic dZine Digital Marketing Studio.

It promises to be a great year full of exciting changes for our team!
